Three Thoughts for the Season

Three Tear Drops

Tears sting my eyes brim
Three drops slide down my cheek
But a smile lifts my cheeks
And my heart fills with glee;

Three tear drops
Stand for three thoughts
That I take with me this time
As I celebrate the birth of Christ;

Thought one: Your word is truth
Thought two: Nothing is impossible with you
Thought three: My worship and adoration is due you
And I take time to reflect on you;

Thank You for your love
Thank You for being God
Three tear drops
Mean: I love you Lord.


The Inspiration
As the Christmas season drew near, I found out that there were so much plans and preparations in place. My increased excitement was coupled with an increase in expenditures. And when I looked around me, it was not only me. I asked myself, “why all these excitement, expenditure, preparations? It is just the birth of Jesus Christ. His death is the significant thing!” But the good Lord was quick to correct me.

I traveled back memory lane sixteen year ago. We were all expecting a baby. The Lord had assured us that my mother was with a male child. Behold, HE was going to do a new thing. We were expectant yet anxious because we were six girls awaiting the birth of their only brother. On the morning when she put to bed, we were at home fixing a nine-year old wooden cot when one of my sisters announced that it was a baby boy. What great joy, peace and happiness we all felt that day. Has the joy waned? No. Sixteen years later, we still try to outdo each other when it comes to buying a birthday gift for him. None of us can ever forget his birthday. The joy is still fresh like it happened this morning.

Why then would I overlook the birth of my Lord and personal savior? Why should I not outdo every other person as I celebrate His birth? In this season as I celebrate with all that I am, I take three thoughts with me concerning the birth of Jesus Christ.

1. The Word of God will surely come to pass

Strikingly in the stories surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ is the statement, “fulfilled what the prophets had said…” or something similar. The Word of God had gone forth, it did not return to Him void but accomplished what He pleased [Isaiah 55:11]. The word became flesh [John 1:14]. The birth of Jesus Christ reminds me that every word of God is true, truth, shall come to pass and has become flesh [living, tangible].

2. With God, nothing is impossible

For nothing is impossible with God [Luke 1:37]. This is a simple statement of truth. The birth of Jesus Christ was a miracle. Mary had not been with a man yet she conceived. Miracles have happened, are happening and will still happen. Not only did Mary experience the awesomeness of God. Elizabeth her cousin also partook in experiencing God.

3. God is worthy of our worship and honor

When the wise men saw Jesus Christ, despite that the baby was in a “lowly” place, they fell down, and worshipped him as to a King and to a God. They also presented their gifts to him [Matthew 2:11]. They did not only honor him with their bodies but also with what God had given them. And their gifts were provision to Jesus Christ (and the family) for things to come.

What great glory, joy and peace have come to the world because of the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. As you celebrate this season, be reassured that His word for you, concerning your life, concerning your circumstances, concerning your desires, will surely come to pass as long as it is according to His will. Remember that with God, nothing is impossible. And do not forget to worship and honor Him with all that you are and what you have.

Character is Tested

Testing Character
I am grateful for those things
That remind me I have your genes
Virtue, Integrity, Character
Which money cannot acquire;

Yet each day comes with its challenges
Testing these desirable qualities
Showcasing illusive rewards
Resulting from doing wrong;

But I cannot disregard
The promptings in my heart
To do the right things
No matter what the short term brings;

To know the right from wrong

To say no with ease
And I ask for your peace

And faith to know
There is beauty in the morrow

The Inspiration
It was easy to say no the first and second time. Easy to say no to those things contrary to whom he was as a child of God. Anthony insisted that he was not going to “sort” to pass any course. But after seeing that his singularity was not being fruitful, he had to ponder on the alternatives. He had three carry-overs already by the third year because he had not paid the bribe. An additional carry-over would mean an extra year (in an institution so difficult to pass through!!!). If it was you, sincerely, what will you do? The question he directed at God was, “why will those doing the wrong thing succeed? Is that not enough incentive for me to follow suite?” And the simple answer he got in his spirit was “I have been young and I have been old but I have not seen the righteous forsaken or his seed begging bread”. The word gave him peace and strengthened him. Today, he is so successful that nobody knows whether he spent 4 years or 5 years in the university (he did not have an extra year by the way). Nobody knew his struggle to choose right from wrong.

That "everybody" is doing something does not mean it is right. And it is very reassuring to know that we have the Holy Spirit who will teach us all things [John 14:26]. So even when you do not think that something is wrong because you entered into a system where it was taken as normal, somehow the Holy Spirit will teach you right from wrong. Making the decision to do what is right in the midst of apparent successes of wrong can be painful, trying and sometimes disheartening. But your light affliction, which is but for a moment, works for you a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory [2 Corinthians 4:17]. It is a much peaceful feeling when you know you’ve done the right thing. Glory be to God, for HE is faithful that promised [Hebrews 10:23]. You cannot quantify the magnitude of HIS blessings when you do the right thing [Deuteronomy 7:12 – 8:1].

As a child of God, you are different. HE said, “Come out from among them, and be ye separate…And touch not the unclean thing, and I will receive you, and will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters” [2 Corinthians 6: 17-18]. Why trade this promise for a temporary satisfaction?

You are only human to wonder why those choosing to do wrong seem to be prospering. Job wondered too [Job 21:7]. But he also mentioned why he should not envy them [Job 21:17-26]. There is no need to focus on their own prosperity when you have yours that is everlasting and does not come with sorrow [Proverbs 10:22].

Beloved Child of God, you take after your Almighty Father in character, virtue and integrity. Even though saying “No” to some things today may seem painful and you cannot see the immediate benefit, always remember that the righteous would never be forsaken nor his seed ever beg bread [Psalms 37:25]. And all things work together for good to them that love God [Romans 8:28].

Sharing Plans and Secrets

Draw close to Me

Somewhere inside Me
I long for that point in time
When we discuss on things
Other than your needs;
I long for you to draw close to me
That I may share those things I want to reveal
Going beyond you
But things about Me and My plans for the future;
I long to see you bridge this gap
Caused by your guilt, fear and insecurity
But come boldly into my throne of Grace
And commune deeply with Me;
But it all depends on you
To draw close to Me
To come clean, purified, and free
As Jesus Christ has made you.

The Inspiration
It can be very annoying when you are the last to know about a well-known gist. Especially when it concerns you. Also hurting is when you think you are someone’s best friend but for some reason you do not get to hear about the main thing happening in his life until it is almost over. I had a similar experience. In my own case, what broke the camel’s back was that one lady whom I introduced to my friend was the first to know about his secret things. And she knew in details all the milestones of his plans. My first reaction was to say, “But I thought I was your best friend? How could everyone know about this before me?” Instead I said, “Congrats, this is just one of the fulfillments of His promises to you. And I will always remain your friend to witness more of these.” Then I went aside to analyze what happened.

Results
1. I was not around for my friend. We were time and a lot of space away.
2. I did not keep up the communication. I let a communication gap come in.
3. I assumed what I had done in the past was enough to keep the fire going on.

I realized that this is same with our relationship with God. We are made in God’s image. This means He can also feel, want to be friends with someone, want to share His secrets and plans with someone, etc. But that someone has to be there for Him. And being close to Him at one point then estranging one’s self is not enough to keep the relationship blossoming as it used to.

The Bible says “The secret things belong to the Lord our God…” [Deut 29:29]. But thank God that “even the mystery which had been hid from ages and from generations is now made manifest to His saints…” [Colossians 1:26].

God is ready to share His plans and secrets with us. Let’s take for instance His relationship with Abraham when He said “Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do… For I know him”…But Abraham stood yet before the LORD…And Abraham drew near [Genesis 18: 17 – 23]. How awesome it is to know that God has shared His plan and His secret with man. And He says He knew him. These verses of scripture says “And Abraham drew near” [Genesis 18:23}. This pre-empties what I learnt from my experience with my friend “Draw close to God and He will draw close to you” [James 4:8]. It is good for you to draw close to God [73:28].

God does share His secrets. The secret of the Lord is with the righteous [Psalms 25:14; Proverbs 3:32; Daniel 2:22; Romans 16:25-26]. He can share with you His plans and His secrets.

Once again, what I learnt from this experience was to draw close to Him so He will draw close to me.
1. I have to be there, i.e. available for Him. If I am not there, He will probably share what He usually shares with me with someone else. Such a person could even be one who may have just got to know Him but is always with Him.
2. I have to keep on communicating with Him and sharing my own secrets and plans with Him. The relationship should not be one-sided.
3. I will not assume that what we had shared in the past was enough to keep the friendship. For the relationship to grow, I need to consciously work towards making the relationship blossom.

Same applies to my friendship here on earth.

Selling my products

The Inspiration
I sell lingerie (women’s underwear and night clothes). This is not by any means a marketing forum. The inspiration behind the peom came one day I went marketing. I saw this lady. I had accessed her from head to toe. I had estimated her pocket. It was good. I ran all the range of products I had to suit her size. Everything in me wanted to sell my product. She was a perfect candidate. I heard the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit telling me I had another product to market.

I took out time to listen to her. Her issue was real. My spirit felt compassion for her. I wanted to reach out to her. I realised she had a need. I wanted to tell her it was ok because everything had been settled years ago.

Let’s do some small marketing 101.

The marketing mix consists of the 4Ps – Product, Price, Place and Promotion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marketing_mix). Product - An object or a service that is mass produced or manufactured on a large scale with a specific volume of units. Price – The price is the amount a customer pays for a product. Place – Place represents the location where a product can be purchased. Promotion – Promotion represents all of the communications that a marketer may use in the marketplace. My lingerie was not part of the 4Ps at that moment. I had a different product to market – The Good News elaborating on the wonderful package of salvation
The place was where I sat with the lady. The promotion was my words (informal communication). And the price? It had been paid for more than 2000 years ago.

We have been instructed to “Go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” [Mark 16:15]. Jesus Christ assured us that “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” [Acts 1:8]. Some feel this instruction is restricted to the disciples. Some feel it is left for pastors, priests and evangelists. This is the responsibility of each and every one of us. There are places the pastors, priests and evangelists cannot reach. There are needs that should be addressed on the spot. There are promptings of the Holy Spirit that should not be ignored. There are people out there in need of your evangelism.

Let me once again liken our personal evangelism to the marketing strategy. We need to consider the 4Ps of the marketing mix. The product (Good News) and price (precious blood of Jesus Christ) remain the same. Isn’t it amazing to know there is a product that has already been purchased for you? But the place could differ – in your homes, in your schools, at the work place, on the road, in the bus, in the church, at the gym, in the courts, anywhere and everywhere. The list is endless. What of the promotion? You could keep the Good News spreading through word of mouth, your actions or through your gifts and talents. I have a friend that when he arrives any place, no matter how down your spirit is, you must laugh. He leaves you with a merry heart and a merry heart does good like medicine [Proverbs 17:22]. Imagine what could happen if during the time in his presence the Good News is shared.

Back to the incident that started this write up. I ignored the gentle voice and went ahead to say, “Dear Lady, I sell lingerie. Low price, good quality, straight from the States. Would you like to see some of them?” She replied, “Not today, some other time.”

So I did not sell my lingerie neither did I mention the Good News. Maybe if I had said, “I know that man who loves you for who you are, the man who will not break your heart, the man who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that you ask or think, a man who will never leave you nor forsake you. His name is Jesus Christ….” Maybe that would have caught her attention. Maybe her downcast spirit would have been lifted and refreshed. And maybe we could have got to know ourselves better and create opportunities to sell the lingerie. Maybe, maybe not.

One thing I learnt is that there are various opportunities to share the Good News, and I should take advantage of such opportunities. I never know what difference it would make someday sometime. What do you think?

Independence Day

My Independence
The risks stare me in the face
I fear I can not keep up the pace
With all those who started the race
Towards independence;

I know where I am coming from
I am more comfortable with the norm
Rather than heading towards the storm,
I prefer status quo;

But it is high time I leave
Cutting off unproductive cleaves
Ignoring those sights that deceive
And move into all you want for me;

Easily have I removed from memory
That those whom I thought were glory
Have failed me and left sad stories
While you’ve remained faithful;

The risks stare me in the face
Now with faith, my fear is replaced
For I hold on to your word and grace
Sufficient for my independence.

The Inspiration
It started out as a discussion on alcohol and cigarettes. A healthy argument I must say. My seatmate on the flight felt strongly about his choices in life. I enjoyed listening to his arguments though my mind was somewhere on those I was missing back home. The guy brought me out of my reverie when he said he would not forgive his father for neglecting him at an early age and making him become a man before his time. I do not know what transpired between him and his father, and I believe he has a right to his feelings. His statement simply reminded me of a friend who refused to speak to his uncle for not giving him a job, and yet another who said her father did not give her money to further her education abroad and hence was the cause of the wrong choices she made following the order that she remains back home.

I learnt a lot from these experiences, from forgiveness, judgment, expectations to duties of parents. But something else I took out of it was Independence. I will merge two version of a scripture to state “Make it your goal to work with your hands so that you will not depend on others and lack anything” [1 Thessalonians 4:11-12; NLT and KJV]. Paul who instructed the Thessalonians with those words was a living example of those words for despite his work in ministry, he was also a tentmaker [Acts 18:3; 1 Cor. 4:12].

As a child (and teenager), I have every right to expect from my parents and guardians. But at that age when I call myself adult, it is high time I behave like an adult (after all there are some things I will do and claim it is because ‘I am now an adult’!) [1 Corinthians 13:11]. It is time to be independent. Independent in this context does not mean I will no longer take the wise counsel of my parents and guardians. It does not mean I will no longer eat from my mother and sleep under the roof of my father. Independence herein means knowing that my sufficiency is not of man but of God [2 Corinthians 3:4]. It implies consciously knowing that HE has given to us ALL THINGS that pertain to life and godliness [2 Peter 1:3]. It goes beyond knowing, but acting upon the truth that HE has given us wisdom, revelation, understanding, skills, abilities, strength and power (to say the least) to be prosperous. This is no time for blaming the past, your parents or guardians. This is not the time to look at the storms ahead or meditate on the failures of others. This is the time to use what HE has given you. In HIS grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well [Romans 12:6]. For you to be independent, you have to take advantage of it. That’s what makes you different from the next person. You do not have to follow the crowd.

Let your dependency be on God for the Lord is good to those who depend on HIM [Lamentations 3:25]. How will HE be good? HE shall open unto you HIS good treasure, the heaven to give rain unto your land in HIS season and to bless ALL the work of your hand. You shall lend to many nations and shall not borrow from any [Deuteronomy 28:12; 30:9]. Every work of yours shall be rewarded [Jeremiah 31:16]. With favour will HE encompass you as a shield [Psalms 5:12].

It is time to be independent while holding steadfastly to God. Incline your ears to HIS words and directions, and you will never go wrong.

OASIS 2007

For how great is His goodness, and how great is His beauty!

It was going to be my first time attending the musical convention of The Carpenter’s Church. I did not know what to expect. All I knew was it was a Sunday and I should be in church that day. Little did I know that I would fall in love with God all over again that day. As I strolled into the compound where the church is situated, I was shocked by the throng of people moving around. I could not locate the tent I easily spotted from afar. It was only 9:20 a.m. and the church was filled. Filled with beautiful and handsome people dressed in colours and styles that appeals to the eyes.

But I held my breath as I finally made my way towards the tent. I could not recognize it – thanks to the decorating team. I began to have an idea of what the statement meant, “Honor and majesty surround Him; strength and beauty fill His sanctuary” [Psalm 96:6]. If King David was there, he would have felt at home. There were decorations of musical instruments and musical notes hanging on every part of the tent. The lightening inside was perfect, boosted by the glorious light from the warm, bright sunshine. None of the colours seemed out of place but rather complemented each other and made me wonder how beautiful heaven must be.

Sweet soothing background music floated through the tent extending to the nearby vicinity. I sat outside. King Saul needed to have been there too [1 Samuel 16:16]. It was a moment of refreshing and revitalizing as God was adored, worshipped and praised with sounds and music. The music ministrations were awesome – from the New Wine Choir, to the soloist and selected groups from the Carpenter’s Church choir. I knew God was there for HE inhabits our praise [Psalm 22: 3].

As I listened to the music that day, several things were happening. I was falling in love with my beautiful God. I call Him beautiful because from the lyrics of the songs I could perceive His unfailing love, His tender mercies, His loving kindness, His grace, His sensitivity, and His sacrifice which no one can repay. I heard words like, “It was not easy but it was worth it”. I meditated on these. It could never have been easy for Jesus to humble himself, die a shameful and painful death for me who was born into sin. To think that Jesus feels it is worth it that He dies for me. Me, who could commit one sin remorselessly in the next second. But He did it because He knows there is something good in me. And you. And He knew all we will experience. He died that we may live again and have a second chance.

While I was yet falling in love with my beautiful, lovely Jesus, meditating on all He went through for my sake, I could feel the music breaking down the walls of my thoughts and rebuilding with words of God; wiping away my fears and replacing them with faith; and erasing any trace of doubt and disbelief that I had ever harboured. I felt the lyrics of the songs were directly for me and no one else. I was learning something about my Heavenly Father that day. He was the one who loved me more than anyone else [Hebrews 13:5]. I confessed all my sins that moment and recommitted my life to Him.

God was at work through the music. Healing was taking place that day. Healing of the body, soul and spirit. Physical healing, spiritual healing and emotional healing. There was cleansing, there was forgiveness, and there was wholesomeness as the words of the songs permeated the very essence of our being. And then, there was the interlude when our Pastor (Pastor Mrs. Nkechi Ene) called out to people to give their life to Christ. She did not need to preach a sermon. She simply recounted the subtle, living words we’d been hearing all through the morning. I was not surprised at the number that responded to her words. Infact, I believe there were many more, who had the urge to come up to the altar, but were rooted to their seats out of pride, fear or self-condemnation. But thank God that many people streamed towards the altar in surrender to HIM. Many were tired of doing things their own way. Many wanted to start a relationship with the faithful Father. Many seized the opportunity to rededicate their lives to Christ. It was no wonder at the mass of people that responded to the altar call. God was there. There was fullness of joy and continuous pleasure [Psalm 16:11]. There was great rejoicing in heaven. I could imagine the joy in the presence of the angels of God as those people accepted salvation [Luke 15:7; 10]. And surely the word of God would come to pass in the lives of those who surrendered to our Lord, the word that says, “Those who have been ransomed by the Lord will return. They will enter Jerusalem singing, crowned with everlasting joy. Sorrow and mourning will disappear, and they will be filled with joy and gladness” [Isaiah 35:10].

Oasis 2007, Glory be to God for that day! Thanks to all those who contributed in making that day a success. It was not only the singers nor only the decorating team. What about the prayers of individuals? That day I witnessed a combination, nay a harmony of gifts and talents. It made me realize that there is so much to our God from whom every good and perfect gift comes from [James 1: 17] and a bit is manifested in us, His children. Above all, the Glory of God was resident in that place. I did not stay until the end but I know I left there filled – filled with the Holy Spirit and filled with some knowledge of an awesome God [Ephesians 1:17; 5:18-19]. I look forward to Oasis 2008!

No more Starvation

No more starvation

The Diligent Man

Reward Today

Every trickle of sweat
Every toil of your hands
For all your diligence

The Inspiration
I had spent one hour waiting. Waiting in the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 (mma2). I was tired of gazing at the beauty and splendor of the building. Indeed it is a sight to behold after being used to seeing the regular stuff in our dear country. It is a building that meets standard. From the seats, to the elevator, to the glasses to the machines, everything was done with standard in mind. For once I felt truly proud to be a Nigerian. Even the oyibos were looking around the airport. Okay, enough about the building. I had been standing for over an hour waiting for my ticket. That meant it was time to get impatient, which is not a fruit of the spirit. Then I remembered one good tip: when you are filled with impatience, take time out to acknowledge the goodness of God around you. By the time you are done (if you can be) the time you feel is wasting would have passed by fruitfully.

I decided to observe my surrounding. My eyes caught a young staff of aero contractors. He was in charge of directing people towards the appropriate counter to check in. I noticed he was always attending to one customer at a time. This made everything orderly. At first I thought he was being extra nice because he wanted something from them. But as more people came, the more I noticed his skill in organizing people. You see, most times when we have to deal with a service provider, we feel that person has only us to attend to. It’s good to look at this from a third person point of view. You will realize that service providers are human beings like us, have personalities, get tired, have personal issues and have the right to get upset. Maybe having this at the back of our minds will help us not to scream Mt Kilimanjaro down when a service provider says he cannot attend to us because he has something pressing to do.

Enough of the digression. My dear “subject of discussion” went about his duty diligently. The hand of the diligent make rich [Proverbs 10:4]. The substance of the diligent man is precious [Proverbs 12:27]. Have you seen a man diligent in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before mean men [Proverbs 22:29]. That is the fruit of diligence. Me, a mere spectator, I was amazed. I know it is not easy to organize people. But he did it efficiently and effectively. What was more interesting was he had this smile on his face as he spoke to every one, big man and small man alike. That was when I realized he was genuine in what he was doing. Another interesting thing I noted is that the work he was doing was not the richest paying job. But he was happy. He enjoyed the interaction with people. I call him a good man.

What about you who has been diligent in your work? Do you think no one sees? The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous and His ears open to their prayers [1 Peter 3:12]. The Lord sees. His eyes run to and fro the whole earth to show himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is perfect towards him [2 Chronicles 16:9]. You may have been doing your thing and not getting the desired reward or breakthrough. But I just want to assure you that the Lord sees. Focus on the Lord in what you are doing. Do it for the glory of God [1 Corinthians 10:31]. Your reward and breakthrough is on the way.

Back to the story of the man I was observing. He went out of his way to ask a woman standing, “Madam, where are you going to? Port Harcourt or Calabar? Can I help you with your load?” To this the lady replied, “Don’t worry about me, I am a staff. And I have been watching you. I will recommend you.”

You never know when that turn of events will come. You never know how it will come. But as long as you are focused on Him, be sure it will come. Every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour [1 Corinthians 3:8].

Don’t lose hope, don’t relent. Keep up the good work and in everything you do, do it for His glory.

Putting it off for Tomorrow

Where I cast my cares

I brought the failings of my heart to bare

With things I did not want for the moment;

And save I cast my cares upon You

The Inspiration
There had been no light in the area for almost a week. This should not be news. We had been running the generator all through. But I was hopeful that one day they will bring the light. So that night before sought peaceful sleep, I had a prompting in my spirit to switch the power changeover to allow for Power Holdings’ light. I quickly replied, “There has been no light. They cannot bring light this night. I’d do it tomorrow.” And then a sudden realization hit me – I was procrastinating.

I decided to share this with you because I began to see this latent worm subtly crawling into the lives of many. Then it resides permanently. It sounds in words like later, some minutes, but more irritatingly in the word tomorrow. Tomorrow is a word full of promises. But when it is used as an usher of procrastination, it is dangerous.

Procrastination according to the Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary means: - to put off intentionally and habitually; to put off intentionally the doing of something that should be done. It also means to delay. Think about the meaning of this word for a while.

What was glaring? The fact that we procrastinate means we do not regard the thing(s) procrastinated as important or dear to us. You cannot procrastinate what you treasure for where your treasure is there will your heart be also [Matthew 6:21]. Will you push to tomorrow that visit to your friend’s place even if it coincided with the time you have dedicated to studying the word of God? Will you ignore that shopping spree to lend a mite to your neighbour?

But a word of scripture kept ringing in my head “So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries [Matthew 6:34a, NLT]. Each day has enough trouble of its own [Matthew 6:34b, NIV]”. It was the answer to my silent question “Is there a problem with procrastination?” Yes there is. Every day has enough trouble of its own. Why add to the trouble for that day. Tomorrow will bring its own worries, why store up worries for the ones that will come tomorrow. Please do not feel that I am prophesying negatively in your life. No. I am simply reminding you of the words spoken by our beloved Jesus Christ.

What did I learn out of it? To tackle each problem or issue as ir comes. We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength [Philippians 4:13]. The reason why we put things off till tomorrow is because we believe we will handle it ourselves tomorrow. Whatever it is, no matter how big or how small, cast it upon the Lord. As you continue to depend on him for everything and every area of your life, you will realize there is no need to procrastinate. His grace is sufficient for you [2 Corinthians 12:9].

Is there anything in your life you notice is entwined with procrastination? Your decisions? Your vows and promises? The eating of spiritual food? Your dreams and calling? Your situation? Give it God in prayer. The Lord’s mercies and compassions (hence love and strengthening) are new every morning [Lamentations 3:22-23]. He will strengthen you.

In the Waiting Room

Lonely in the waiting room
Ignorant of everything around me
Except the perception of my senses
That all except me have what I desire;

The very things I prayed for yet so far

Your answers to other’s prayers

The fulfillment of your promise
I feel
The lack of that which I groan for in secret;

My lips let out a lament
Wondering when my turn will come
For it seems that those behind me
Have been attended to;

And then I hear Your gentle whisper
Like sweet music to my soul
This same time in My Time
I will come to you;
And then I find my peace
In Your Words
I realize I am not alone
So I wait on You
For my expectation is from You only.


The Inspiration
Timi heard the good news of his brother. His brother had just got a scholarship to further his education abroad. All resulting expenses for this education have been taken care of. Timi left the gathering of his rejoicing family. He wept. He was not jealous. He was not envious. He was simply frustrated. He lamented, “I have prayed for this too. I felt peace in my heart that God had answered this prayer. I did everything right. I stood on His word. Even when the enemy has been dropping discouraging thoughts concerning my CGPA, I still stood on the promise of God. Some that bribed their way through have got this scholarship. God, why is my case different?”

Have you ever found yourself in such a situation? When it seems like a zillion years between the time when you prayed and when the prayers are answered? Most likely. Maybe this is not your case now but if you look back, there may have been times like that. If this is your situation now, you are not alone. But the good news is you are in the waiting room. Being in the waiting room means it will soon be your turn to see the physical manifestation of your prayers. It does not matter who comes first or last. What matters is that you will surely be attended to.

It is very discouraging when you seem to have done everything right yet the prayers don’t seem to be answered. The Psalmist said, “I have been young, and now I am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.” [Psalm 37:25]. You can be assured that God will never forsake you nor will your seed be in need. All you need to do is to wait. Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint [Isaiah 40:12]

What can you do while you are waiting on God? By the way, waiting on God does not mean you are waiting for Him to answer your prayer. You are waiting for the physical manifestation of your prayer because He has already answered your prayer.

1. Keep praying: - this means keep being in communication with God not repeating what you have already asked of Him. Communication improves your relationship with God and by so doing you may understand the purpose for the waiting period. [Luke 21:36; Ephesians 6:18].

2. Stand on His Word: - Whatever you desire, as long as it is His Will, has His Word backing it. Stand on His Word. Even when the enemy tries to test it, do not let go. His word will come to pass because His word will never return to Him void [Isaiah 55:11] and He watches over His word to perform it [Jeremiah 1:12].

3. Be mindful of what you hear and meditate on: - Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God [Romans 10:17]. Do not find yourself listening to words that will make you disbelieve what has He has promised you but delve more into His Word. Take every testimony as a reminder that your turn is coming soon.

4. Rejoice with others: - especially when it comes to the very thing you believe God for. When you rejoice with others, when you sow seeds into their lives, you will not even realize it when your prayer has been answered.

5. Visualize the realization of your dream: - Faith without works is dead [James 2:20]. You need to act like you believe that your prayer has been answered. Confess positively. Visualize it. Thank God for it [Psalm 52:9]. Talk about it like it exists.

6. Sow a seed: - Sowing precedes reaping – it is a natural principle. But you need to sow in good ground to reap something good. Spend time with God knowing what to sow, how to sow and where to sow. Even when it seems painful to sow, the results are tremendous [Psalm 126:5-6].

7. Do not tell God how or help God to answer your prayer: - God’s ways are not our ways. His way is perfect [Psalm 18:30]. His timing is perfect [Ecclesiastics 3:11]. He is mighty in wisdom [Job 36:5]. Who are we to tell Him how best to do it? One thing I know is when He does His thing; HE does it exceedingly above our expectations. Trust Him with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding [Proverbs 3:5-6].

8. Wait on the Lord: - While you are waiting, wait on God, not on man. It is God that will give you the words and strength to go on. It is God that is always with you and will love you just the way you are [Psalm 27:14; Psalm 62:5].

This list is not exhaustive nor is it a rule of thumb. You alone know how your relationship with God is.
Let me close now with these words: Do not be weary in doing good for in due season you will reap if you do not lose heart [Galatians 6:9].

Generous on Every Occasion

Unfolding
For so long
I hoarded
All that you blessed me with
Thinking that they will finish
If I hid them for myself;

In the form of your Word
Aroused my interest
And opened my eyes
To see treasures in generosity;

So I unfold
My hands and my heart
To give all that I am
That there may be thanksgiving
And Glory to You.

The Inspiration
There are times when we don’t want the Word of God to be right. For instance we read Deuteronomy 28:1 with joy “And it shall come to pass, if thou shall hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth…” for so many blessings follow this verse. But when we get to verse 15 “But it shall come to pass, if thou will not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee…” and the verses that follow, we wish this part was not in the Bible.

God is a just God [Isaiah 45:21]. All scripture is given by HIS inspiration, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that we may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works [2 Timothy 3:16-17]. Therefore every part of the Bible is relevant.

But there was one that took me unawares. It read, “…that you may be generous on every occasion…” [2 Corinthians 9:11]. And these words came when I decided to go on strict savings, even if it meant starving. I had to check every possible translation to find a way out

Then I read the statement beginning verse 11 “You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion…” It started making sense then. Part of the reason why God has blessed us is to enable us bless others. By so doing glory and thanksgiving will be given to God. Check out Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary on this

But that is not all. What happens if you do not currently have money and material things to give (which I doubt)? What happens if you are a generous and cheerful giver but you do not give only money and material things? In what other ways can you be a generous on every occasion?

The cross-reference to 2 Cor 9: 11 reads “For in Him you have been enriched in every way—in all your speaking and in all your knowledge” [1 Corinthians 1:5]. This tells me that God has blessed us with so many things to bless others. It could be your words of motivation, uplifting or encouragement. It could be your time. It could be your presence. It could be your touch. It could be your smile. It could be a prayer. It could be a helping hand. It could be a call. The list is endless.

Be generous in every occasion with what you have. This does not mean that when you see an opportunity to sow a seed of money that you will tell yourself that you have other ways you can be generous. No. Always obey the voice of God. God has blessed you that you may be a blessing to others.

I’d like to conclude with the words Mordecai spoke to Esther, “For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance shall arise for the Jews from elsewhere, but you and your father's house will perish. And who knows but that you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this and for this very occasion?” [Esther 4:14]. I rephrase and state thus that if you do not respond at this time, relief and deliverance will still come as God plans. But have you wondered if God blessed you and placed you where you are to fulfill His will of bringing glory to HIM?
With what you have, be generous on every occasion. And you will see as He continues to bless you and you will bear much more fruit.

No Ordinary Calling

No ordinary calling

I heard the call
So serene and subduing
It reached my very substance
It stimulated all my senses;

I heard the call
In response to my yearns
Yet I could not respond
For I cared for what they would say;

It was no ordinary call
For it spoke about my emptiness
It knew the me not even I knew
It spoke softly to the ears of my spirit;

How could such words
“Come, My Love”
Make me toss and turn in bed
Despite the words of men;

No longer could I hold myself back
From true love, from that predestined
When I turned to take a glimpse of the source of the call
I was engulfed by the awesome love of God.

The Inspiration
A group of us sat down and discussed our fears, why we had delayed in responding to the call of God even though we’d heard the good news for so many years. Some said they were not ready to leave the enjoyable life to serve God, some said they were restrained by peer/family pressures; some said they did not really understand the essence of the messages preached. It was wonderful to hear that they did not regret answering the call. They only wished they had answered earlier than they did. The call of God that I am referring to here is the call out of darkness into the truth, into marvelous light and into eternal life. It is the call to salvation [1 Corinthians 1:24, 2 Thessalonians 2:14] (Salvation: being saved from sin and having deliverance, healing, household salvation, healed and restored relationships, peace, joy, love, abundance, answered prayer, protection, a satisfying long life, etc).

Every moment God is calling HIS children to everlasting life. The acceptance of Jesus Christ as your Lord and saviour, believing that HE died for your sins, and rose again, and asking HIM to come into your life, is a powerful response to the greatest call you could ever hear.

It was a noble prayer of Paul to say, “…The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of HIS calling…” [Ephesians 1:18] because there is so much in HIS calling. It is a high calling [Philippians 3:14], it is a holy calling [2 Timothy 1:9] not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began; and of course a heavenly calling [Hebrews 3:1]. This calling is irrevocable [Romans 11:29]. Even before you were born, God chose you and called you by HIS marvelous grace [Galatians 1:15]

When you say you are blessed, try to see beyond the material things. You are blessed with all spiritual blessings

You belong to those whom Peter says, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people…” [1 Peter 2:9]. This is a wonderful blessing, privilege and destiny of one who has responded to HIS call. You are God’s special treasure whom HE specially chose and purchased with the precious price of the blood of Jesus Christ. Hence you’ve been made holy. So do not envy the kings and princes of this world. They have nothing compared to you for you belong to a priesthood {all of the people qualified to perform religious duties} consisting of kings.

What then are we called to be or do? I leave aside the specific calling of God for you. That you can find out by spending time with HIM. God called us to be HIS own holy people [1 Corinthians 1:2]. HE has called us to live in peace [1 Corinthians 7:15]. God has called us to live holy lives, not impure lives [1 Thessalonians 4:7; 2 Timothy 1:9]. HE did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was HIS plan from before the beginning of time—to show us HIS grace through Christ Jesus. HE called us to do good [1 Peter 2:21]. We receive our eternal inheritance and are blessed by God [Hebrews 9:15; 1 Peter 3:9].

Do not take the calling for granted especially after you’ve responded to it. You need to be worthy of this calling and fulfill all the good pleasure of God’s goodness [2 Thess. 1:11]. We have been instructed to wok hard to prove that we are really among those God has called and chosen [2 Peter 1:10] for if we do this, we will never fall away.

Beloved Child of God, the calling of God is no ordinary calling. Fret not when you hear the calling, fret not when you respond to the calling, and fret not when the tides of life want to shake your roots. For in HIS kindness God called you to share in HIS eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So should you suffer a little while, HE will restore, support, and strengthen you, and HE will place you on a firm foundation [1 Peter 5:10].

Tried, Tested, Tasted, Testified

I have tried you, Oh Lord
In my days of unbelief
But you showed me Grace and Mercy

In my moment of weakness, in my times of trials,
You did not forsake me;

I have tasted you, Oh Father
I have drank of your love and goodness
I can boldly say My Lord is good
Better are the plans you have for me;

I have stretched my faith for your course
No, you did not disappoint me
I have experienced the trueness, love and power of your words
That I long for your sweetness more and more;

The Inspiration
One of my favourite lines during my teenage years was “Taste and see that the Lord is good” [Psalm 34:8]. Funny enough, I never knew that was a bible passage until recently. When I look back now, I thank God for HIS enlightenment and grace. I was actually using that line for carnal things.

I tried to put together the inspiration behind this poem. I could not. It was taking me so much time. I wanted it to be a 3-page write-up because there is so much to HIM and so much HE has done. I wondered why the long story could not be conceived in me. It was this morning I realized why – HE is simply a Good God. There is no complexity, no secret, or too much talk about it. Once again I say, HE is a Good God and HIS mercies endure forever [Psalm 106:1] (There are so many other biblical references to this statement).

My piece of writing today is to testify that HE is a good God, HE is faithful, HE is gracious, HE is true to HIS words and promises, HE is wonderful, HE is merciful, HE is excellent, HE is ever-present, HE is beautiful, HE is light, and HE is love. There is none like HIM. It is a privilege, honour yet a blessing to be called the child of such an awesome God and Father.

Just hold on tight to HIM and never let go. HE is ever faithful and never failing.

The Angels, The Branches
Getting to the top of the tree
Was preceded by holding on to branches
Some from where I rested to take fruit
Some of which I broke off along the way;

I find myself here today
Able to look back at how far I’ve come
Enjoying the blessings that come with the position
Forgetting that I would not be here
‘Cept for the branches that aided along the way;

Bring to my remembrance, Oh Lord
The angels you sent to lift me up
Your instruments to fulfill your promises to me
And may I never cut off branches
As I move to the next step.

The Inspiration
You are about to be lifted up, above your current situation and above your current status. Did I hear a loud Amen? But before you move, please take a pause.

God has been wonderful. HE has been true to HIS promises. HIS words have accomplished what HE pleases. I have listened to many testimonies of people concerning jobs, finances, healing, relationships, fruit of the womb, saving from danger, etc. God has done it again, I say to myself. HE is unchangeable. To God be the Glory. But one thing has been consistent in all those testimonies – God used people to realize HIS promises.

You might argue with me that you prayed night and day for your healing, you stood on the word alone, and because of your faith your prayers were answered. Try to get to the root of this. Don’t be surprised if you find out that you stood on a word someone once shared with you, or a message your pastor preached, or your faith grew by the testimony of someone else. Even if you had to go to a doctor to get treatment, God used the doctor to bring about your healing. Haven’t you heard of cases where doctors made mistakes?

What of you who got a job? You say you were praying in tongues hence you got the job. But was it not someone that told you about the advert? Or was it not someone that gave you money to buy the paper? Or was it not a friend that agreed with you in prayer concerning it? What of when you were stranded and you called on the name of the Lord? Was it not someone that came to your rescue?

Today’s message is to remind us that when we pray according to HIS will, HE answers. The physical manifestation of these prayers answered come through physical means – in most cases human beings. I liken this situation to HIS Word, “Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared” [Exodus 23:20]. When HE takes you to a different level (in form of answering your prayers or performing a miracle in your life), HE sends an “angel”.

As you take the pause, have you acknowledged the “Angels” HE sent to ensure you get to what HE has prepared for you? Have you appreciated that parent that gave you the right advice, that guardian that sowed seeds of Tuesday Guardian into your life, that friend that prayed with and for you through the trying situation, that Pastor who preached the Word that collided with your spirit and the word became flesh?

Acknowledging and appreciating such people does not require much. You could sow a seed into their lives even if you think they have everything. You could pray for them especially the ones you may never come across again. You could call them up and remind them of the wonderful thing they did in your life. They may not know how much they impacted on your life and your call might be all they need to assure them that they have worth in this life. Don’t be selective. Even the person that denied you entrance for the visa was only a person God was using to tell you that was not what HE prepared for you. Or the man that asked you to sleep with him before you get a job? Thank God for him for if you had taken that job probably you won’t be where you are today. And what about the doctor that said your case is hopeless? Thank God for him for it was through HIS words that God showed Himself through and proved that HE is not a man, that HE should lie; or the son of man, that HE should change HIS mind; That which HE has spoken HE did and that which HE promised HE fulfilled [Numbers 23:19].

And as you move to the next level, be thankful to God for everyone that comes your way for it is for a reason. Do not judge by the outward appearance, for you do not know who is the next angel HE is sending to prepare the way for you.

It was not about the number

The Inspiration
Miriam was the head usher in church. Ever since she found God, she was so thrilled that she decided to give all her time to God. She was in church day in day out. She cleaned the church, she trained new intakes to her department, she fasted and prayed. Ever since she found God, she stopped cooking for her husband, she stopped taking care of the children and she stopped working. When her son was involved in a fatal accident, she kept on praying. She never for one day looked at the boy. Fortunately she had an elder daughter who gave up everything to look after her brother (I think in this family they know how to give up things to focus on one thing). And the girl vowed never to know God or go to church for she felt that was the cause of the neglect the family was going through. Before I go into the message for today, let me say something here. As a child of God, you are the light of the world. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven [Matthew 5:14; 16]. You have the primary assignment of going into the world to preach the Good News [Mark 16:15]. People should not reject God because of you. Back to my illustration. Giving all your time to God is different from giving all of yourself to God. On thinking about what had happened to that family, I wondered, “When people say children of some Men of God are bad, could it be that the men of God spend so much time with God that they forget their families?” It is not an easy task juggling the work of God with other things. Maybe that’s why Paul advises that it is good for a man not to marry since an unmarried man is concerned about the Lord’s affairs [1 Corinthians 7: 1; 32].

Sammy is someone passionate about whatever he is doing. He is result-oriented. He likes challenges. He is motivated by achievement. The company called him a high-flyer. His wife called him a workaholic. His children knew him as someone who gave their mother money. The Teacher said, “So what do people get in this life for all their hard work and anxiety? Their days of labor are filled with pain and grief; even at night their minds cannot rest. It is all meaningless. So I decided there is nothing better than to enjoy food and drink and to find satisfaction in work. Then I realized that these pleasures are from the hand of God. For who can eat or enjoy anything apart from me? God gives wisdom, knowledge, and joy to those who please him…” [Ecclesiastics 2:22-25]. I remember one evening when we lost a staff. The next morning he was replaced and work continued. I realized that we are not that indispensable. Things would still go on without us. It is only our purpose on earth that cannot go on without us because it is unique to each and every one of us. Nevertheless, whatever you have to do, please do it diligently.

Maxwell is a lover of life. He is sociable. He is the heart of the party. All his days are vacations. His mother calls him lazy. His father calls him his mother’s son. One day he opened his eyes to realize that time and chance had happened to him but they all passed him by. But then the Teacher had said, “I said to myself, ‘Come on, let’s try pleasure. Let’s look for the ‘good things’ in life.” But I found that this, too, was meaningless… Anything I wanted, I would take. I denied myself no pleasure…” [Ecclesiastics 2:1, 10-11]. And he concluded that it was all meaningless.

Everything seemed to contradict themselves. Should we not give all of our time to God? (Now, if this is your calling, there is absolutely nothing wrong with giving all of your time to God. A call from God should be obeyed to the letter). Should we not work to make a living? Should we not seek pleasure, vacations and enjoy ourselves? Why did the Teacher say it was meaningless? I wondered and pondered. God is faithful. HE answers. I was discussing one day about something entirely different from this and I was told, “Do things in moderation”. I had read that word ‘Moderation” somewhere in the Bible, you know sometimes we just read the Bible like novel not knowing we should meditate on it day and night. So I asked, “What do you mean by do things in moderation?” Obviously it means to do things moderately, but I needed to understand that word because God was talking to me through him.

My spirit is excited as I want to share the meaning of “Moderation” with you. The Oxford Advanced Learner’s dictionary defines “Moderation” as “The quality of being reasonable and not being extreme”. Then I remembered the Word of God, which HE spoke many months ago concerning my wondering and pondering on everything that was said to be meaningless. It says, “Let your moderation be known to all men” [Philippians 4:5]. The Lord was simply telling me, “Be reasonable in all you do, do not do things in extremity.” While I was yet thinking about today’s message, I had already taken days off just to be like Maxwell (because some people say I behave like Sammy). That explains why you have not been seeing posts on the blog in a while.

Beloved Child of God, are you living your life in extremity? Are you chasing after the wind? Has anyone hinted you that you don’t have a life? Or are you doing great with the balancing act? The balancing of God, Family and Work (in that order of priority)? You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you [Philippians 4:13]. Let your moderation be known to all men. You do not need to go to the extreme to prove your point.

The Worth of Your Past

I see what’s right with my past

How I dreaded a visit to that place
That place where all my hurt unfolds
That place where my guilt is magnified
That place where my mistakes stare me in the face;
Too often on my onward journey
You have made me go back
After the visit my heart sinks, I hide in my closet
And I say, Oh God, my past has done it again!

How foolish was I not to discern
That each time You took me back was for a reason
To show me how You’ve been there through it all
To show me I am a conqueror through Christ Jesus;
Why were my eyes not enlightened
To see that You were teaching me that You had overcome all things
Yet I was listening to the lies of the enemy
And making no progress in life;

Now I am ready to embark on this visit
And be ready to take the lessons you want me to learn
Rather than giving in to self-condemnation
But accepting that I am indeed a new creature;
From now on I choose to see what’s right with my past
And not pray that it goes away
For every thing that happened was for a reason
And I make the best of today because of lessons from yesterday;

I just want you to know that I treasure my past
And I am ready to go visiting with you
For my past is the only memento I have
Of your love and faithfulness
And my reassurance
That you will always be here for me.

The Inspiration
When the doctor asked Ejiro what were the symptoms of his illness, he replied, “I have a sore throat, I feel feverish, I have been having dry cough, my mouth tastes bitter in the morning…” He hesitated for a while then continued, “Doctor, I used to smoke even as a born-again Christian. I suppose this is a terminal disease as a result of that!”

The doctor, who was taking down notes looked up at Ejiro and said, “You simply have symptoms of Malaria and that can be treated. This is rainy season and every day I see patients with the same symptoms. Most people fall sick because they call sickness. There is nothing terminal about what you are experiencing.”

It was clear that Ejiro believed that his past had control over him. He was living in his past. The past should not be your dwelling place but something which you take lessons from as you move forward. This is one thing we should do: forget those things which are behind, and reach forth to those things which are before, press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus [Philippians 3:13-14]. But the Devil is awake devising strategies to steal, kill and destroy. So he brings to your remembrance the things of your past which you so desire to forget. For example, a man who was a homosexual before giving his life to Christ. The devil reminds him of this and goes ahead to tell him it is possible he will never get married because no woman will ever want him on knowing the truth. Strange but true, this thing called “Past” has been an unwelcome august visitor in the lives of many. Sometimes we find ourselves there – it does not have to come to us. Whether it comes or whether we go there, it can be associated with bad news, destruction (friendship, families, self-worth, faith, etc). It even causes inferiority complex. Scientists have realized how annoying this “Past” can be and have developed drugs to help erase the past.

Now before you take the drugs:
The past is not always about bad news. There is also hope for the future. The Word of God says “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” [2 Corinthians 5:17]. The moment you confess your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and personal saviour, you are a new creature. The original translation of the new creature meant the creature never existed before. Such a creature never had a past. God forgives and forgets everything concerning the past of such a person.

The worth of your past is that God was with you all through the experiences you had. You are alive today to tell someone, “don’t drive after drinking,” and this saves his life rather than focusing on the death of your friend that night you drove after drinking (and saying you will never forgive yourself for it). You are alive today to tell that young girl, “don’t tease your uncle” rather than telling yourself that the rape incident will imprison you from a life of joy and happiness. A lady said when she was an unbeliever she had 6 abortions but now she’s a born-again Christian and married, she’s scared that she may not take in. What nonsense has the devil done? If she was still an unbeliever probably she may not have given conception a thought and would have taken in again but all of a sudden the enemy reminds her of her past and she feels taking in a 7th time might be an issue. Dear friend, God did not put six eggs in your womb. HE put millions in there.

Whenever something happens in your life and you are tempted to say “It is because of bla bla bla that I did yesterday…” quickly recognize that it is the spirit of self-condemnation. Use the truth of the Word of God to counter such negative thoughts. Self-condemnation is one of the deceptions of the devil so you could keep your eyes on yourself and not focused on Jesus Christ. There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit [Romans 8:1].

Try to see what’s right with your past. I agree that we are where we are today because of the places we’ve been, people we’ve met and words we’ve said, but more importantly we are here today because HE gave us another day. So many people that have passed through what you’ve been though did not make it to this day. They don’t have a past to worry about but they don’t have today or a future either.

Today is another chance to experience the love and awesomeness of God. HE has given you another day to bless you (not to curse you). HE is a good God. Today you can reflect HIS glory. Today you can be a testimony. Today you can save a soul. Today somebody can be blessed because of your past.

Letting go of the past is not easy but it is accomplishable, a gradual process with the help of the Holy Spirit. I was blessed by the message in PLUGIN “Let Go, It’s over”

Meditating on the Word of God

I Have Meditated

Forgive me Oh Lord
For I have sinned in my heart
I have filled my thoughts with things I should not
Creating no room for you to dwell in;

I have meditated on the words I heard on the news
Now abides in me the spirit of fear, not faith nor peace
I have meditated on the lyrics of that song
Now I lust after those things that erode my soul
I have meditated on those words said against me
Now inferiority, hatred and unforgiveness are growing in me
I have meditated on those material things
That rob me of my riches and your purpose for them;

Soften my heart that I may permit the entrance of your word
Let me love your word for their magical touch
Teach me how to meditate on them
And let my thoughts be acceptable to you.

The Inspiration
“You are the fattest, ugliest person I’ve ever known. If I looked like you, I’d kill myself.”
Imagine someone said such words to you, touching your most sensitive spot (you know how ladies can be when it comes to weight). I heard them spoken to someone. She wrote them down to remember them. She said them over and over again in her heart and to people she narrated the incident to. And do you know what happened to those words? A lot. 1. She started believing them. 2. She started having low esteem of herself 3. She hated the person(s) that said those words to her and all she wanted was to see their doom as well as take revenge on them. She wanted to hurt them terribly. She wanted to speak death upon their lives because she was so hurt. The list is endless. Every time she looked at the mirror, all she saw was the fat, ugly girl who should have long been dead because no one wanted to be like her. She failed to see the gorgeous eyes, the soft palms people always wanted to touch and the delicious meals she was known for. I’m sure the only things that held her back from suicide were the pain involved and the US visa lottery she had been applying for.

Let’s go over what she did with those words.
1. She accepted them.
2. She said them over and over again,
3. She read them (because she had written them down)
4. She gave them some thought when she was not doing anything (and even when she was washing plates or sweeping the compound, she had the ability to go over those words).

The result was that they became “alive” to her and resulted in other (negative) consequences.

What had been done with those words is simple – they were meditated on. The dictionary defines MEDITATION as the practice of thinking deeply in silence; serious thoughts on a particular subject that somebody writes down or speaks. Most places in the Bible where we come across the word meditation, from the Hebrew translation this means MUSING – to think carefully about something for a time, ignoring what is happening around you. God gave man the ability to make choices. For us to make choices we have to think. Therefore, every one of us can think and hence can meditate.

Meditating over words has the power to make words alive to you. The life in those words can affect your spirit, soul and body. Meditation can be short or long. The longer the meditation, the more powerful will be the resulting effect (I think). David said, “Let…the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD…” [Psalm 19:14]. He was aware that whatever we meditate on becomes alive and potent. Think about it – how many sins did you commit without first committing them in your heart? Before you told a lie, did you not think about it? Before you sinned, did you not think it in your heart? Thank God that there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus [Romans 8:1], I was simply trying to give examples. Similarly, before you decided to look after orphans and widows (which God accepts as pure and faultless [James 1:27]) you thought it in your heart. Before the word “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” made sense to you, you had to think about it (or has this word not yet clicked in you?).

What are you meditating on today? What are you spending time thinking about? Are they acceptable in the sight of God? Are you thinking about the cares of life, the words someone said to you, the property you desire, the person you’ve placed in your heart above God, the things you don’t have or the past that HE has forgotten? Or are you meditating on the sweet word of God, the most powerful words you could ever know, the truest words you could ever hear, the word whose entrance bring light, the only word that became flesh? Meditating on the Word of God yields only positive things.

Take some time out today. Meditate on HIS word. Read it, think about it, and say it. The great news is that no matter what you are going through, no matter what you are thinking, there is a Word for you – a word that makes all the difference in the world.

The reason why we should meditate is clearly stated in Joshua 1:8. We are instructed not to let this book of the law depart from our mouth; we should meditate on it day and night, so that we may be careful to do everything written in it. The benefit of meditation is that then we will be prosperous and successful. What more can we ask for?

Finally, Brethren, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things [Philippians 4:8]. For me, one thing that fits into this category is the Word of God. I hope we share the same view here.

It's Not About Some Things...

It's All About You (and Who I am in You)

It’s not about the physical
Though many give You glory for it
It has also brought close those that caused grief
‘Cos I didn’t know it’s not about the looks

It’s not about the status
For such things are changeable
How high can I go, how much can I have
There's a limit to things that are not eternal

It’s not about the education
For I’ve strived so hard to show I’m better
Spending my life in competition
To attain things that give no fulfillment

It’s not about the gifts and talents
That make me try so hard to show I’m different
When already I am unique

Restoration Today

Thanks for Restoration

I thought the end had come
I felt all hope was lost
My eyes could not see the future
I wanted to continue no more;
Then You came into my life
And showed me the meaning of love
You alone knew all I had been through
You alone knew what to do;
You made me forget the many years lost
You restored my joy at no cost
You gave me hope and a future
You gave me reason to go on;
How I love you, My God and King
In a moment you restored everything
Like You had been waiting for the perfect time
To teach me some things about You;
I just want to thank You Lord
For being My Restorer
For giving me all I thought was gone
For being a God that never fails.

The Inspiration
I remember that day of baby dedication. The couple came on stage and after prayers upon their babies, they were told to make a statement. They narrated the numerous miscarriages the woman had yet after many years she had twins. That can only be of God. Our Almighty God is a restorer.

The devil has come to steal, kill and destroy. He has come to steal time, joy, kill dreams, and destroy possessions. But Jesus Christ had come so we will have life and have it more abundantly [John 10:10]. Everything the devil can take and has taken from you, HE will restore.

Our God can do anything and no one can stop HIM [Job 42:1]. Job was a man that lost practically every thing he possessed. He was blameless—a man of complete integrity. This shows that being blameless does not exempt you from being visited by the devil. Despite all Job lost, despite all the time that elapsed (and seemed wasted) the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before [Job 42:10]. That is how God restores.

Child of God, the years may have passed you by in some areas of your life. But I want you to know God’s promise for you. HE says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the Lord your God, who does these miracles for you. Never again will you be ashamed.” [Joel 2:25-26] HE will make it up to you. HIS restoration is much more than food. HE will do a miracle for you and take away the shame that has come with the lost years. Is it your finances, job, promotion, spouse, children, relationship, possessions, trust in God, dreams, peace, joy and happiness? What ever it is, HE will restore much more than you imagine. HIS way is perfect [2 Samuel 22:31]. HE has made everything beautiful for its own time [Ecclesiastics 3:11]. No matter what you face that seem to contradict God’s plan, these should not be barriers to believing in HIM, but rather opportunities to discover that God gives lasting solutions to life’s problems. When HE restores, HE restores completely.

There is restoration for you today. Wherever you are God can reach you. Whatever your situation is, it is not too difficult for HIM. Open your heart to HIM and trust HIM. HE is never late.

Some Physical Characteristics of God

I know You for I’ve seen You

You are real, Oh King
In every part of my being
I see You in Your creations
I see You in all that You do
Your eyes watch over me with loving kindness
Your ears hear me, even my thoughts and whispers
Your face shines upon me day and night
From Your mouth proceeds all I need for life;
Your strong, mighty hand keeps me safe
Your heart is set on me for always
From Your breath power emanates
From Your voice great things originate
I know You for I’ve seen You
In all that You do
And I want You to know
I love You so.

The Inspiration
My spirit dances with excitement each time I am reminded that we are made in HIS image [Gen 1:27]. Yet, I have often wished to know how HE looks. In my days of ignorance I asked a friend, “Have you seen God? Does HE truly look like us? I imagine HIM to be one giant sitting on a golden seat with a golden scepter in HIS hand, with Jesus sitting by HIS right hand.” She laughed. She replied, “I see God in everything and everyone around me because they were created out of HIM.” Then she added, “Please do not try to give God something from your imagination – that would be making HIM look like an idol. God is much more than that.”

Then I did not understand her but today I know that God is much more than that imagination of mine (what an imagination!) There are so many facets of God. Describing HIM will make a book. So I choose to summarize it as “God is Love” to make life simple for me.

Today I’d like to share with you some things about God, what I call HIS physical characteristics.

The Eye(s) of God
Child of God, you can live and sleep in peace because the eye of God is upon you [Psalm 34:15]. They run to and fro throughout the whole earth, that HE may show himself strong on behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him [2 Chronicles 16:9]. For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and He ponders all his goings [Proverbs 5:21]. HE sees everything that is going on. HIS eyes preserve knowledge [Proverbs 22:12]

The Ear(s) of God
Did you ever wonder if HE hears you? Call upon HIM any day any time for as long as you live for HE has inclined HIS ears unto you [Psalm 116:2]. HIS ears are not heavy that HE cannot hear [Isaiah 59:1], HIS ears are open unto your prayers [1 Peter 3:12].

The Face of God
Part of your daily prayer should be let the face of the Lord shine upon you. When HE shines HIS face upon you, HIS graciousness goes with it [Numbers 6:25]. No matter what you are going through, seek HIS face and you shall be saved from that circumstance [Psalm 80:3]. There is restoration when we seek HIS face [1 Kings 13:6].

The Mouth of God
Whatever comes from the mouth of God is established. That is why we need to hold on steadfastly to the Word of God. HE has made us know that man does not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from HIS mouth [Deuteronomy 8:3]. You shall sit under your vine and under your fig tree (enjoy the most prosperous tranquility); no one shall make you afraid, for the mouth of the Lord of hosts has said it [Micah 4:4].

The Nostrils of God
There is so much power in God – it even exudes from HIS breath. At the blast of the breath of HIS nostrils, the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered, at HIS rebuke [Psalm 18:15]. Those that plow iniquity and sow wickedness, by the breath of HIS nostrils are they consumed [Job 4:8-9].

The Hand and Arm of God (and HIS right Hand)
The Hand of God is mighty [Joshua 4:24]. When it is upon us, we are strengthened and we can do great things [Ezra 7:28; Acts 11:21]. HIS arm is mighty, strong is HIS right hand and high is HIS right hand [Psalm 89:13]. The King’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: HE turns it wherever HE wills [Proverbs 21:1]. Therefore no barrier is too great for you to overcome because HE can make things happen in your favour. The Lord’s hand is not shortened that it cannot save [Isaiah 59:1]. No matter how deep in sin or in any situation you feel you are, know that HIS hand can reach you and deliver you. From the hand of God, you will eat and drink and enjoy good in your labour [Ecclesiastics 2:24].

The Voice of God
We are instructed to hearken diligently to the voice of the Lord [Exodus 15:26] for many blessings will follow. When God thunders marvelously with HIS voice, HE does great things which we cannot comprehend [Job 37:5]. HIS voice is powerful and full of majesty [Psalm 29:3-9].

The Heart of God
Your body is the temple of the Lord – there the Holy Spirit resides. The Heart of God shall be there perpetually [1 Kings 9:3].

I hope with these words, you’ve learnt something about God.
