Something on Testimonies

For some time, I thought it was vain to talk about those good things God has done for me. I also felt I was living in past glory when I kept thinking about His love, mercy and faithfulness from time past. In recent times, I have begun to appreciate more the things He has done for me. The testimonies are endless. Just when I was thinking that I would have to stop dwelling on and sharing testimonies, I stumbled upon this:

Blessed are they that keep Your testimonies and seek You with their whole heart [2].
I have rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies, as much as in all riches [14].
Remove from me reproach and contempt, for I have kept Your testimonies [22].
Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors [24].
I have held fast unto Your testimonies; O LORD, put me not to shame [31].
Incline my heart unto Your testimonies, and not to covetousness [36].
I will speak of Your testimonies also before kings, and will not be ashamed [46].
I thought on my ways, and turned my feet unto Your testimonies [59].
Quicken me according to Your lovingkindness; so shall I keep the testimony of Your mouth [88].
I have more understanding than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation [99].
Your testimonies have I taken as a heritage forever, for they are the rejoicing of my heart [111].
I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies [125].
Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore does my soul keep them [129].
Your testimonies that You have commanded are righteous and very faithful [138].
The righteousness of Your testimonies is everlasting; give me understanding, and I shall live [144].
Concerning Your testimonies, I have known of old that You have founded them forever [152].
I may have persecutors and enemies*, yet do I not depart from Your testimonies [157].
My soul hath kept Your testimonies, and I love them exceedingly [167].
I have kept Your precepts and Your testimonies, for all my ways are before You [168].

All lines here are taken from Psalm 119, 21st Century King James Version of the Bible. The verses are the numbers at the end of each line. The line with asterisk (*) was rephrased.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things [Philippians 4:8].

The new century version of Ps119 actually makes it clearer, they are actually not our own testimonies, they are God's. I see testimonies as a practical way to tell someone how God is a healer, when he heals us, or God is a provider when he supplies our needs, our the anchor when we had no one to hold on too etc

The testimonies are reflections of who God is, and what he is able to do, vs46... it can also be used as a tool for witnessing, comforting others etc.

***Phillipians4:28, I have been meditating on this verse of scripture all week

I can imagine that testimonies will make people hope in God. My life is a testimony and my family is one. A testimony doesn't have to be extraordinary it's the little miracles that God does everday in our lives. Thank God you're on blogger to remind us to seek God!

oh, this is really lovely Rita...n I do know the importance of testimonies (that's why I started the TESTIMONY CORNER on Anoda Phase)...no, it's not vain at all; it's saying thanks to God, shame on the devil, and also encouraging someone else to hang in there, for their own testimony will soon come...

I have been told that we receive trials and tests for our testimony account. The bigger the test, the bigger the testimony.

There's a fine old hymn:

To save the sinner Jesus came,
To set the captive free;
And now my willing lips proclaim
What He has done for me.

So long as it makes much of Him tell what He's done for you
