Mama’s Blessing & Mom’s “curse”

I am sure many of you have received blessings from parents and grandparents. You know they are powerful? Don't joke with them J. Let me share one of my experiences here.

When I got the first money of my scholarship in Uni, I bought Small Stout for Mama (grandmother). She blessed me saying, "You will be rich. You will marry a good husband. You will have plenty children. You will carry your grandchildren. You will be successful in all you do…" I also remember the day Mom said I should make soup for the house. I had a date. I abandoned the meal and went on my date. When I came back in the night, Mom was furious. She said, "You left me hungry and worried today. If you don't stop behaving like this, your children will treat you exactly like this…"

I remember vividly the night I thought was my last on earth. I woke up by 2 a.m. and my feet were frozen and numb. Inside my bones were biting me. Slowly I felt the cold and numbness creep up my limbs, and also move down from my skull. At a point the only part functioning was my lips and the heart. I felt once the numbness gets to my heart, it will be my end. There was no "NEPA" (light). Rain was falling heavily. There was no car to take me to hospital. No phones to call for help. After Mom prayed for hours and nothing changed, I gave her my so called last wish.

  1. Bury me in purple
  2. Do not make a ceremony out of it so you don't have to spend money
  3. Please call a man of God to pray for me - I want to give my life to Christ so I can go to heaven.

Suddenly I remembered Mama's blessing and Mom's "curse". I told myself "If they must come to pass, I cannot die even before graduating from Uni. They must come to pass." With that confidence, I could listen to the silent voice in my heart that said, "Drink water". I was afraid because I knew that before most people die, they ask for water. But since that was the only option left and morning was not approaching fast, I muttered, "Water". They quickly brought bottles of water for me. After 30 minutes of drinking, I felt the urge to urinate. They carried me to the toilet. I urinated. The whole house started smelling of Ampliclox. Then I recalled that 2 days before, I had taken self-medication of Ampiclox for boil. I asked for the pack of the Ampiclox. Guess what I saw? It had been expired over a year ago and I had taken overdose. I started drinking more water. By dawn, the numbness had left my body and I was normal.

Mama's blessing and Mom's "curse" are good. They were sufficient for the days when I was not a Christian. But now I know there is a far more superior blessing. It is The Blessing of the Lord, which makes rich and adds no sorrow with it [Proverbs 10:22].

There is The Blessing out there waiting for you to tap into. It covers every area of your life, even areas you never imagined. It is backed up by the power of God.

You can find some of God's great and precious promises specifically for you HERE. Should you find yourself in any trying situation, remember The Blessing. Remember His word and promises. Do not forget that they must come to pass.

For as the rain and snow come down from the heavens, and do not return there again, but water the earth and make it bring forth and sprout, that it may give seed to the sower and bread to the hungry,

So shall His promises be that goes forth out of His mouth: it shall not return to Him void without producing any effect, but it shall accomplish that which He pleases, and it shall prosper in the thing for which He sent it [Isaiah 55:10-11 AMP Paraphrased].

Believe.

Have a blessed week ahead.

for some reasons i don't believe in neither blessing nor curses. i have a mindset dat pple say so many things, & more of d time in great emotions. Am i supposed 2 believe dat just dat in itself will turn my life 360 degrees? nah. i read 'The Gods Are Not To Blame' as a kid & it made a lot of impression on me. my future is depends a lot on me, & not on what someone says - neither curse nor blessing. I mean, even God operates on free-will. i have the free-will to seek out d favour from Him, & make good choices. I find dat a lot more liberating dan worrying who said what abt me. But nice post though. Very funny abt wanting to be buried in purple. hehehehe

This post was just great! There's power in our mothers' blessings and curses...just that a curse without cause will not alight, and there's no curse God can't cancel.

Blessings are really important...they do come true. I'm glad you got better after drinking water...

That scripture is one of my favorites, and what better time to see it again...when I'm waiting here for God's promises concerning me...

There is power in spoken word, God created the world with words.

Am glad you held on to your grandma's words at that point, Imagine what the word of God would have done?

Thank God for you.

... and Noah blessed Shem and Japheth (Gen 9:26)
Isaac blessed Jacob.. (Gen 27:27-29)
Jacob blessed Joseph (including his grand-children Ephraim and Manasseh)...(Gen 48:14-20)
Jacob blessed his sons (some curses were included in this portion for some sons!! Gen 49)

So I guess I'm not wrong to say that a (grand)father/mother's blessing holds in the life of the one who is blessed and "Recieves" the blessing!

So you are blessed dear child, your mouth/pen/keyboard will be filled with sweet words for such a time as this, your life will show forth the glory and beauty of the creator, and your well will never run dry, you are truly blessed!!

Thanks for this inspiring post

@Danny BaGucci: Yes, if only…now you’ve mentioned it, I see that there is need to spend time thinking on The Blessing

@OPTIMISTIC_alyzzz: Amen oh, lol, but I think it is safer to stay away from expired drugs…cant go thru that again…

@Kafo: Oh dear, hope you got a good “mornings” rest…

@FFF: If we live by what people say to us, I am not sure the population of planet earth will not be this much…I like what Jaycee said “a curse without cause will not alight, and there's no curse God can't cancel”.
For me, I select what I want. I say big Amen to blessings and I reject curses…
Purple is my favourite colour. That time I had one beautiful purple gown I liked. I didn’t want to leave the world without it, lol. Thank God those days have passed.

@Dee!: I usually feel good when I tell someone “God bless you”. I will continue to bless people with my words and deeds. Thank you.

@In my head and around me: Then I was crazy about purple…
unfortunately, the love has not waned. I am only forming mature about it now…

@ShonaVixen: lol…I don’t want to imagine what we would do without each other on blogville…Grandma’s blessing will come to pass for sure…

@Jaycee: Dearest Jaycee, thank you so much. I so like the clause “...just that a curse without cause will not alight, and there's no curse God can't cancel”

Water…it was like a miracle when the body responded to water…

God's promises concerning you will surely come to pass…

@Fantasy Queen: My Luv, I am so glad that you are not ignorant…His blessings are still applicable to us now…
The drug was not fake when it was bought. It was just that when I had the boil, I took it without looking at the expiry date or finding out the dosage I should take. But speaking of fake drugs, where I did my NYSC, they sold ONLY fake drugs.

@BSNC: I really thank God. Imagine if I never had to chance to be a family member of blogville….the drug was not fake oh…it’s just that it has expired when I took it…blame it on me for not checking the expiry date…

@Jayla.: Do you know how excited I am to know there is something better than grandma’s words? Thank God…

@Remi, United Kingdom: Thanks Luv…All glory to God…

@Oyin: or separate the good from the bad?

@Justdoyin: thank you and thank God…

@Writefreak: Thank you Sis, may our mouths continue to share the blessings…

@Doll: Amen…

@Beulah!: You got the whole purpose of this story…same question I ask myself…

@Buttercup: Amen Sweet Buttercup…

@Honey mi: What better way to clarify the point if not to use documented examples…thank you for sharing. I open my heart and all that I am to “receive” The Blessing.

Thank you for your kind, encouraging words. I say a big Amen to your prayer over my life.

Hmmm, God bless you for this post.. It's loaded and thought provoking.
I like this line from the link you shared:
"The blessing is an empowerment or enablement from God to help you get supernatural results in everything you do"

You know!!! the words that come out of a persons mouth can bring life of death. Curse or Blessing. We really should make the effort to speak blessings into being, speak life, and not death! :D

Happying for you and that your grandmas blessin o! (gleefully remembers all the "loaded" blessing my grandma has piled on me in my lifetime :D"

"The Blessing out there waiting for you to tap into." nothing beats remembering His blessings, more especially 'cos we do not merit them nor can we earn it.

However, one thing He requests from us is obedience.

What a testimony! Even as a non-believer you asked for a man of God to pray for you.

I am thankful for your life and that you were able to share such an important message with us all.

I also wondered about the request to be buried in purple. You already answered that.

"....that THE blessing may rest upon your house..."

Amen.

When I pray, I always ask God to over look my shortcomings and answer me not for myself but for my mothers sake...
