The Buildings

Limited

For so long
I have wondered
Why I am still where I was
Yesterday;

I blamed it on You
Not know the truth
That all I wanted
Was right before me;

But I was limited
By how far I could see
All I thought I deserve
And all they said I could be;

But you’ve opened my eyes
That I may know
Everything is out there
Waiting for me.

The Inspiration

Baby and I were bored with the adult party going on. Imagine that staff and spouses were having a social event yet they were still talking office talk. How boring! Baby was a colleague’s daughter that couldn’t keep her eyes off my sexy red gown. We left the room where the dinner was going on to have our own fun.

Baby at the age of 3 was good at using the camera. She wanted to snap everything in sight. As we got to the balcony that overlooked the beautiful city of Abuja, she decided to take some pictures.

“I want to snap the 2 houses,” she demanded.
“There are more than 2 houses here,” I told her. I was seeing the beautiful scenery, the night glittering with bright light at different corners, and nature in an alluring rhythm.
“There are only 2 houses,” she insisted.

I realized that we were looking at the same place but from different points of view. Her view was obstructed by some parts of the balcony. I, being much taller, could see the view in full.

“Can I carry you up to show you the other house?”
“No, I want my two houses…” and click click, she continued taking photographs of the two houses.

Baby was telling me something with her response. I wondered.

Are we usually content with our comfort zone to the extent that we do not want to make a move to see what is really out there?
Are we limited by our circumstances, situations, or what people say? I remember one lecturer that said A is for God, B is for him and C is for the intelligent students. Everyone was okay with it. Until a quiet friend of mine came and told him A is for human beings.

There are a lot of blessings out there for you to take hold of. Do not let short-sightedness, fear, past, what people say determine what blessings you deserve. God has them unlimited for you.

You have been blessed as far as your eyes can see. Think, dream and see big. How far are you seeing today? Do not limit yourself or limit God. And as you expand your vision today, know that all you see will be yours.

Have a blessed day.

Hmmmmm....This statement "Are we usually content with our comfort zone to the extent that we do not want to make a move to see what is really out there?...is speaking to me... I still can't fathom the fact that I'm here in the US... I just want to go home (to Nigeria) and be around, and have what I'm used to... Hmmmm....

i like the lesson from this...but maybe i saw it slightly differently

baby was told that there was more out there...but she chose the beauty as she saw it...yes this can be limiting...
BUT
to love completely something without fully understanding the context in which it exists...is also a good thing

I don't understand the mysteries of GOD and everything he created...despite this fact i am very content in the fact that HE understands me and i fit in within the context of the world he created...even if i cannot take it all in

'There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy'

TRUE
we have to be open to the beauty that surrounds us
AND
to that which we do not/cannot see or understand...

The difference between limited and unlimited is the "UN"...

I just coined that phrase within a second, but seriously your post ignited a fire within me to not be limited in my way of thinking...

Thanks.

Sometimes I just dunno if by wanting more I am being greedy and ungrateful. Should I be grateful and satisfied with what I have and where I am? Grateful? Yes. Satisfied? Not really. I want a little bit more, but I don't want God to feel like I'm bugging or asking for too much.

...But I'll ask Him tonight.

Funny enough I was just telling my self I need to move from where I live..I moved there when I was broke..God has blessed me a lot this year yet I seem to be comfortable there...

geisha said...

'you have been blessed as far as your eyes can see...'
i like to see that instead as 'you've been blessed much much further than your eyes can see'

we so often stay in our comfort zones for fear of the unknown. the fear of a thing is greater than the thing itself...

i liked this.

@Archiwiz: Ah! So you’re missing home that much…maybe you can get in Nigeria more than what you’re used to (but I am not so confident about this: -) )

@LG: Hmmm…thank you. Didn’t want to say my intention was not to preach.

@Funms: You’re welcome…like the sound of “Fear sometimes paralyzes…” I think paralyze really explains the response…

@Aloted: You’re conniving with LG…You’re welcome. Hope you enjoyed the word.

@Ade Adeyemi: Yeah, there are a lot of things we can learn from unassuming people...thanks for appreciating the poem.

@Simeoneomobaba: I am in PH…Just one of those days when we find ourselves in the undisturbed city

@Shubby Doo: Wow… a different and inspiring view…contentedness…and I really liked the part of “…To love completely something without fully understanding the context in which it exists …”

Your comment (every letter of it) was very insightful. Thanks. I really appreciate.

Are you an avid reader or you studied literature in depth? You really know so much.

@Jaycee: Very soon there will be a book called “Quotes by Jaycee…” Hope you’re keeping tab of all your phrases.

May the fire in you not be quenched. You have a lot out there to take hold of.

@Femi B: Be it unto you, according to your words…

@Oracle: Where and how have you been? Hope fine. Thank a lot.

@Vera Ezimora: I just like you…Surely God wants us to be grateful and content…but not ignorant/hesitant of the blessings He has for us…Hope you asked Him for more without thinking twice…if you did, consider it done...

@Naijalines: You’re welcome…hope I got you the way your “Love…” kept me thinking longer than I expected…..

@Red Sapphire: Thanks dear…spoken in season? I am grinning…

@Afrobabe…God is really blessing you oh! Please when you move to the new house, give me gist about the house warming party…Please prepare for an elevation / promotion (not sure what type it is)…

@Geisha.song: Sooo true...I don’t think we can fathom with our physical eyes the blessings available to us…thanks for sharing this point of view…I am so enriched...

Sometimes it's hard to not limit myself, no matter if times are good or bad, but I do believe in blessings due so I always try to maintain a 'the sky is the limit' philosophy.

We can easily put up hinders for ourselves it´s true and lmit our blessings...Knock and it shall be opened to you, but how will they open if you do not knock...
thanks girl.

rethots said...

...on the contrary, it may not necessarily be that baby saw not the other buildings but, at that moment, the two buildings was her goal.
So, you sure were right, she was telling you something with her response. Though, others (seemingly) see the other side as green; 'this side' is not infertile.

@The Invisible Man: Thank you. You have a nice blog. Thanks for dropping by.

@Vhagwins: Poetry is indeed a gift.

@Dammy: Na wa oh! Where have you been? Thanks for your insightful comment…not easy to take that bold step but it could lead to something better than we imagine…
